The weekend immediately follows the Queen’s birthday on the 21st and is fitting as a number of the exhibits show-case Sir Norman’s work as Her Majesty’s favourite dressmaker. Pictured left is his design for the going-away outfit worn by the then Princess Elizabeth after her wedding in 1947. At 7pm on the Friday there will be a talk by Claire Williams (Norman Hartnell’s god-daughter) about the life and work of the fashion designer. Refreshments will be provided at the start of the evening and there will be ample opportunity to look around the displays afterwards. There are a limited numbers of tickets (at 10 each) for the event which is proving very popular, so anyone wishing to attend needs to let the organisers know as soon as possible see below. The exhibition will be open from 10am to 5pm on the Friday and Saturday and then from 12.30pm to 5pm on the Sunday. Refreshments will be available at the Old School, opposite the church, during these times. The weekend’s activities will end with a choral evensong in the church at 5pm on the Sunday. The exhibition entry fee is 5 and reduced prices are available for group bookings. The event is being organised in aid of SSAFA and St Lalluwy’s Church, Menheniot.
