The annual celebration of the Cornish arts takes place on Friday at the Eden Project as the cream of the art, music, theatre and film world gather to find out the results. It’s the WOCAs’ third year and there’s more talent than ever before performing on the night from metallers King Creature (who have just recorded their debut album at Abbey Road after supporting Motorhead at last year’s Eden Sessions) to the young dancers of Jason Thomas Performing Arts. We also have all four nominees in the Best Music category playing live that’s 3 Daft Monkeys, Duchy Opera, Even Nine and Stone Roots an eclectic mix of dance folk, theatric vocals, anthemic rock and funky pop. The evening will be hosted by What’s On editor Lee Trewhela with special guest, the irrepressible Cornish comedy legend that is Jethro. Lee said: “It was great to see so many of those listed in the first round of voting sharing the news on social media and urging people to support them. “With so many votes it shows how important the WOCAs have become in shining a light on Cornwall’s flourishing arts and leisure scene. “It’s also heartening that there are a number of surprise finalists with many of the big names you would expect to see not making it to the final four in their category; a fine example of people power.” We’ll be covering the whole event live on social media so keep an eye on the @WhatsOnCornwall Twitter account and the #WOCA2016 hashtag, and also a live blog at www.westbriton.co.uk The event kicks off at 6.30pm with food and drink before the awards start being handed out at 8pm. The titles up for grabs, and the nominees who hope to bag a WOCA, are: BEST RESTAURANT
