Free entry but donations on the night for charity and next year’s fireworks event. HEARTLANDS, POOL The sky will light up again in Pool, near Redruth, this November as Heartlands hosts its fifth bonfire and firework night, but this year they have created a crowdfunding campaign to help keep their bonfire night free for the community as they see costs mount with increased visitors. Heartlands has become one of the premier places in Cornwall to celebrate Guy Fawkes night with a bang, as over 8,000 people descended on the world heritage site each November and Heartlands is expecting even larger numbers this year, as the display fall on a Saturday. But it is becoming increasingly difficult for the site to keep the display free as costs for stewards, safety equipment and infrastructure increase each year, so they’re reaching out for help form the local community. Karis Matik, Heartlands’ events assistant, said: “Each year we welcome around 8,000 people and if each visitor donated 1 to the display we could provide the event safely and keep it free for the community. If each visitor donated 2 we could extend the length of the display and increase the entertainment on the evening. At the moment the donations we collect usually amount to around 20p per person. “We’re sure that the local community loves the display as much as we do and that we can raise more than 20p a person, so if you love the firework display and want to see Heartlands bonfire and firework display continue, please help us by making a donation and sharing the campaign.” By making a donation you could receive a special thank you, a T-shirt, a VIP viewing of the display from the engine house platform or you could even start the countdown for the fireworks.
