Normal admission charges apply. “We were nominated for the project in Liverpool where residents were taking things into their own hands and developing their own neighbourhood,” said Giles. “We were acting as designers and fabricators to a small extent. We helped design the houses and embellished them with small artifacts we made in our workshops. It was on a small budget so we contributed furniture items like door handles and lampshades which made them more exciting homes. “We were surprised because we didn’t perceive our own work to be considered as art and so we were pretty taken aback. “There was a debate about the usefulness of art. We considered it to be architecture or design but that is still valid as a form of art and expression.” Giles grew up in Tavistock and will be talking about the relationship between art projects and small scale architecture and how they can have a beneficial impact on the places we live. “I grew up in the West Country so feel an affinity with it,” he said.
