After returning to the UK in 1963 he was enrolled in The Penwith Society of Artists by Barbara Hepworth. His work is included in the Arts Council Collection His optical devices are represented in national science museums around the world and are used for research in many universities. His work is represented in London by Osborne Samuel. Pope’s awards include those from the Arts Council and British Council. He holds two full UK Patents and has worked as a consultant to NASA and Pinewood Studios. Ernest was born in America but after living and working in Sweden and Paris from 1946 to 1951, he moved to London. As a mature student at St Martin’s School of Art he came under the influence of Victor Pasmore and others. Ernest went on to become a key member of the British Constructionist art movement. Several of John Ernest’s works are in the collection of the Tate Gallery London, The Arts Council, The Contemporary Arts Society as well as in several private collections.
